At LMH, we believe in working with tenants towards achieving a positive future for our homes, our communities and our City.

Over the past year, we have held a number of events within our local neighbourhoods from festivals and fun-days to clean-ups and consultations.

Recently our roving "Mobile Display Unit" has also been out-and-about, showing tenants the quality kitchens and bathrooms they can expect with LMH - look out for us at an event near you!

 Warbreck flower power

young pupils plant wild flowers in local parksLiverpool Mutual Homes has added its weight to the "Proud Warbreck" initiative.

The aim of the scheme is to tackle environmental grot spots in the Warbreck ward. As part of the initiative, LMH has funded Liverpool City Council's Park Ranger Service to expand its "Roots Project" into this ward.

To launch the project, Park Rangers linked up with schools in the area to help young pupils plant wild flowers in local parks. Pupils from Northcote Infants and Longmoor Community Primary carried out seed sowing and plug planting at Rice Lane Recreation Ground gardens and Warbreck Park.

The Rangers took the children back to the sites in Spring to see how the seeds had bloomed, to encourage the youngsters to take pride in what they had achieved and to continue to look after their neighbourhoods in the future.

"I am very glad we were able to help these youngsters brighten up their neighbourhood through this initiative," said LMH interim Managing Director David Green.

 Clean Sweep

The cleanu rganised by Liverpool Mutual HomesThornside Walk in Gateacre was subject to a week-long clean-up blitz recently to tackle its growing litter and environmental problems.

Dumping of litter and waste over balconies and blocking fire escapes was presenting a genuine hazard as well as causing an unsightly mess.

Problems with anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping were starting to blight the area and something desperately needed to be done.

The clean-up, organised by Liverpool Mutual Homes, and supported by local residents and community groups - saw a week long programme of environmental improvements. Skips were provided for residents to dump any unwanted household items.

As a follow-up, residents have been so delighted with the improvement in their environment that they have agreed to re-form a tenants' group and have already voted for a committee.

Woolton's Blooming Lovely

The Woolton in Bloom committee membersWoolton in Bloom has achieved some significant success in brightening up the village - and securing a couple of major awards.

They achieved their wins in 2006 with a little help from Liverpool Mutual Homes who have sponsored the project, and helped with the general upkeep of the area.

The Woolton in Bloom committee were absolutely thrilled when Woolton collected the Best Large Village prize at the North West in Bloom awards, and then the Silver Gilt award at the Britain in Bloom finals.

"Silver Gilt is the second highest award from the Royal Horticultural Society," said Woolton in Bloom horticultural manager Kerry Peacock.

Woolton was judged on its floral displays, permanent landscaping, conservation and recycling, public awareness and local environment quality - with the latter proving the area where LMH sponsorship came in handy.

The Woolton in Bloom committee members, who all work voluntarily, are unable to carry out exterior painting in the local area due to health and safety regulations, and also needed some clearance work to be carried out, so the LMH grant to enable this to be done proved very useful, ensuring that the environment around some tenant properties was ready to greet the judges.

Now the challenge for Woolton is to go one better and collect the Gold Award in next year's competition.

Party Time!

The "World in Princes Park" event, in partnership with Brouhaha International, saw a whole host of activities take place, with entertainment across four stages, children's workshops and international food stalls.

There was also a chance for visitors to talk to representatives from a number of housing organisations including Liverpool Mutual Homes, whose staff were on hand to talk to tenants about the proposed stock-transfer.

The event itself saw performances from a wide range of local, regional and international artists, including One Heart One Voice Urban Choir, Positive Impact and The Abelwell Foundation. The headline performance was given by reggae superstars Dawn Penn and Delroy Williams.

LMH goes mobile

Residents welcomed into the LMH mobile display unitResidents were welcomed into the LMH mobile display unit at two community fun days recently.

The events at Springfield Park and Phythian Park gave tenants the opportunity to see the sort of improvements they might expect should the stock transfer go ahead.

The mobile includes a kitchen and bathroom display to give tenants a better idea of some of the proposed home improvements.

Other activities included face painting, football coaching put on by Everton's youth department, plus advice stands on energy efficiency and anti-social behaviour and displays by the emergency services.

The LMH-mobile will be hitting the road over the coming months - look out for us at an event near you!
