Digital awareness training
The internet can be a huge help when finding work or applying for jobs and is also a way of taking advantage of financial savings by using price comparison websites for household bills for example.
There are also the benefits of online banking; not having to leave your home to queue in a bank on the high street and there’s a vast range of information to help students with their research and children with their homework.
LMH in partnership with Everton JCP
Throughout December 2011 and January 2012 LMH and JCP ran digital awareness training sessions to highlight these benefits and over 90 unemployed residents from the Everton ward were invited.
The training also raised awareness on how to access the internet in the community for those without internet access at home.
To follow on from that, we then identified areas for further one-to-one training which helped customers set up email accounts, search the internet and apply for jobs online.
A Digital Advisor from Local Solutions came along to help with these one-to-one sessions and as a result many of those who attended have now registered with Local Solutions for further support in IT training.
Further sessions are planned in February and March as LMH and JCP continue to work in partnership in the Everton ward to help raise awareness of the benefits of being online.
