Supporting the Safe as Houses campaign
25 November 2009
This July 09, fire tore through three storeys of Lakanal House in London, killing six people. As investigations into the blaze continue, Inside Housing has launched its Safe as Houses campaign, to stop preventable deaths from gas and fire. LMH is fully supporting this campaign and is urging people to register their support for the campaign.
LMH already ensures all its Carbon Monoxide detectors in new homes are hard wired with gas appliances and has emergency procedure notices in every corridor of its high rise blocks and low rise blocks. We want to ensure that this is standard for all housing across the country.
LMH Chief Executive, Steve Coffey, said: "LMH backed the Safe as Houses campaign as soon as we were aware of it and believe it is imperative the proposed changes are recognised and implemented.
"We are making a big effort to boost awareness of the campaign by promoting it through as much of our literature and information points as possible.
"We have asked all our staff, contractors, partners and tenants to get behind the campaign and I would urge everyone reading this to do the same - people should be kept as safe as possible in their homes and these three changes will make a tremendous difference."
