LMH Comes of age
15 December 2009
Since the transfer of Liverpool City Council's remaining social housing stock in 2008 Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) have been working with Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT) in its North and North West areas to deliver housing management services and its improvement programme.
The early few years of any stock transfer are always the most difficult as the new organisation seeks to establish itself and begin to deliver the promises given to tenants. The arrangements that were put in place supported LMH during this initial period and helped to 'hit the ground running' on Day One.
The help and assistance provided by LHT is very much appreciated by LMH and both parties now feel that it is the right time to concentrate on core business and other activities. As a consequence the outline of an amicable agreement has been reached which will see the current arrangements come to an end on 30th June 2010. It is hoped that the agreement will be finalised by the end of January 2010 which will allow for a smooth transition.
Chief Executive at Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH), Steve Coffey, said: "As a new organisation, it was important that LMH utilised the expert knowledge and support that was available at LHT especially in managing two of the most challenging areas in the North and North West of the city.
"However, by the time the current arrangements conclude at the end of June, LMH will be over two-years-old and we now have the staff with the skills and experience to deliver this aspect of our business.
"Both organisations acknowledge that this strategic decision gives LMH more control in the running and future direction of its business and will allow for services to be shaped around tenants current and future needs and aspirations rather than a structure that was put in place quite some time ago.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank LHT, and its staff, for its support during these early years and we will continue to work together on existing projects and those of mutual interest in the future."
Liverpool Housing Trust (LHT) Managing Director, Dave Lambert said: "LHT have been delighted to be involved in this project and to have helped LMH through its early couple of years. It is clear that tenants in the North and North West of the city have benefited hugely already and will continue to do so. It is the right time for both of us to concentrate on our own business and we will work towards a smooth transition at the end of June.
I would take this opportunity to give my best wishes to LMH, its tenants, board and staff as it moves towards a new phase of what I am sure will be a successful future."
