Insurance

LMH reminds all tenants and leaseholders to take out Household Contents Insurance. This can be done through the Simple Scheme or by making your own private arrangements.

Some tenants believe that landlords automatically insure their furniture, belongings and decorations against theft, fire, vandalism or burst pipes. This is not true. Unfortunately many people only realise this after the damage has been done.

Liverpool Mutual Homes has negotiated a scheme with RSA; the scheme is only available for LMH tenants and leaseholders. It's simple and value for money, with premiums payable weekly, fortnightly, monthly or annually. You can pay your premiums by:

  • Direct debit
  • Cheque or Postal Order
  • Payment Card at your local Post Office or Paypoint

When you take out this insurance most of your household goods and contents will be insured in your home.

The policy covers the following items:

  • Damage to your belongings in given circumstances
  • Accidental damage
  • Freezer contents
  • Lost or stolen keys
  • Tenants liability
  • Liability to third parties
  • Accidental death
  • Bogus officials
  • Domestic animals
  • Loss of metered water and oil for heating
  • Contents in the open
  • Students possessions
  • Trees and shrubs
  • Professional removals

(Note this is not an exhaustive list.)

The following additional cover is also available….

  • Accidental damage extension to the contents
  • Personal belongings
  • Hearing aids and wheelchairs

The policy insures your household contents and personal belongings other than clothing and household linen on a new for oldbasis. No excess applies when you make a claim.

The lowest amount that can be insured is £6,000 if you are over the age of 60 the weekly premium for standard cover is 82p and £9,000 for all other tenants at a weekly cost of £1.38. The maximum amount you can be insured for is £40,000.
