64-tons of waste removal costing £7,000

LMH were recently required to clear 64 tons of waste from the gardens of an empty LMH property in Walton.

The site had become vastly overgrown with an extensive build-up of scrap car parts, railway sleepers and over 230 car tyres and wheel trims. Staff quickly set to work clearing the area which took over a week to complete. Essential internal repairs and de-infestation of the home also took place while the waste was removed from the site. The entire cost of the work and of returning the property to the LMH standard for occupation totalled over £7,000.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident as yearly LMH spends over £300,000 clearing rubbish from empty homes, gardens and communal areas. This money could be spent on up to 83 Kitchens or 120 Bathrooms or even 167 Stair lifts. Via our charity arm, ComMutual we could use the funds to create more employment and training opportunities for tenants.

In addition to the cost, no-one wants to see their local environment ruined by rubbish. We ask all tenants to work with LMH to keep your neighbourhood looking its best and all tenants are required to leave garden areas free of rubbish when they move out. LMH will recharge tenants for any rubbish in their property or garden that we must clear.
