Tenants who took part in our scheme to help them back into work and improve their wellbeing graduated in a special ceremony to recognise their achievements and highlight the positive journey many of them have undertaken.
The course began in September 2015 with 12 weeks employment related training covering skills such as CB writing, interview techniques and stress management. From January, 16 participants began 12 week volunteering placements at places such as Sunflowers Cancer Support, Granby Children’s Centre and Sanctuary Family Support. 3 VIPs were successful in gaining employment at this stage.
The programme than began its third phase with 10 participants gaining a 6 month paid placement within their current role, allowing them to become paid members of staff for 16 hours a week of work. Funding was also provided to enable 3 VIPs to complete an NVQ level 2 to further support their knowledge within their chosen careers.
Lindsey Phillips was one of the participants on the scheme. She said: “When I got the opportunity to go on the VIP course, I was nervous but when I joined it was the best opportunity I have ever been given.
“When I started at Sunflowers, my whole life changed. I grew as a person and have learned a whole new set of skills. This is all down to the amazing people I work with who have guided me and have helped me to grow into a totally different person.”
