In line with the Toxteth and the City Centre Job Centre Plus’ (JCB) moving over to the full digital service of Universal Credit (UC) last week, LMH held a community event at Toxteth Town Hall.
LMH and ComMutual were joined by South Liverpool Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB), Toxteth Job Centre Plus, Granby and Toxteth Development Trust, Granby Sure Start, Tesco’s Park Road, Raise and Liverpool City Council’s Benefit Maximisation Service, came together to provide support and advice. In addition, information was also translated from the team and volunteers from the South Liverpool CAB’s Diversity in L8 initiative.
Edward from Toxteth and LMH tenant, came along for details about UC to help prepare his family, “I’ve been given rent advice and told that I’m to get in touch if my circumstances change. ComMutual also told me about the support available for me and my family. It made it more comfortable being able to speak to someone face to face along with a nice cup of tea!”
Denise from the L1 area said, “From speaking to LMH and Raise today I’ve been able to access key and accurate information which has made me feel better about some of my queries.”
Not everyone who popped in were LMH tenants. Mary is with another housing association, “I’ve been given excellent advice by approachable staff. I’m now aware of lots of organisations who are there to help the community. I’ve been reassured about what Universal Credit means for me, so I’m not as anxious as I was to begin with.”
Representatives from ComMutual were able to sign post customers to the free weekly computer classes available and even helped a gentleman on the day search online to reduce his energy costs.
LMH also welcomed Katie Teasdale, National External Affairs Manager for the National Housing Federation (NHF) as part of her tour round some of LMH’s initiatives.
Katie said, “Events like this show that LMH is dedicated to its customers and the wider community.”
LMH is being joined by partner agencies this week as part of the UC roadshows in the Toxteth area on Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th November. As well as the LMH Diane information bus, the team will be out door knocking to help answer any questions customers may have around UC or other areas concerning their tenancy.
Look out for LMH’s Customer Involvement Team who will be door knocking in parts of L8 on Thursday 15th November between 10am – 2pm. Remember, all of our staff carry photo I.D. badges so don’t be afraid to ask to see it.
