Right to Buy

If you became a tenant prior to the stock transfer in April 2008, i.e. your tenancy started with Liverpool City Council, you may be able to buy your home under the Right to Buy scheme.

However, if you became a tenant after the stock transfer, you may still be able to buy your home but under the Right to Acquire scheme. You will need to have held a tenancy of any social landlord for a minimum of three years. This is similar to the Right to Buy scheme but the discount is currently capped at 9,000 in Liverpool regardless of how long you have been a tenant.

Certain types of homes may not be eligible for the Right to Buy / Acquire schemes.

These include:

  • Temporary accommodation
  • Specialist housing for older people, or people with a physical or mental disability
  • Where your home is provided as part of your employment
