Older People’s Awards 2017 – Ricky’s after your nominations

Have you submitted your nominations for this year’s Older People’s Awards?

For the fourth year running, Liverpool City Council has teamed up with Housing Associations and partner agencies caring for older people to support the Older People’s Awards.

The awards celebrate deserving individuals over the age of 65, as well as organisations and initiatives catering for older people.

Ricky Tomlinson is encouraging the people of Liverpool to nominate themselves, their neighbours, agencies or initiatives for one of these prestigious awards.

Ricky said: “There are no better people than us scousers for helping each other and I’m proud to host these awards to recognise their dedication as individuals and agencies caring for our older community. I’ve even got my own award “The Smile Award”, so if you can crack a joke and make someone smile then get your application in.”

Awards categories include Outstanding Community Volunteer, Outstanding Active Person, Outstanding Skilled/Interesting Person/Lifelong Learning, Outstanding Carer, Outstanding Older Person Initiative and Outstanding Older Person Agency, as well as Ricky’s own Smile Award.

Each category will have three winners, carrying cash prizes for individuals, initiatives and agencies. Nominations close on Friday 18th August.

To complete your nomination head to www.liverpoolmutualhomes.org/older-people-awards or request an application form from Karen Cox, LMH Customer Involvement Officer, on 0800 678 1894.

Executive Director at Liverpool Mutual Homes, Angela Forshaw explains:

“The Housing Associations are delighted to once again be a part of these awards with Liverpool City Council and our partners.

“It is important for us all to recognise the contribution that older people make and we want to encourage as many older people and agencies as possible to apply.”

Councillor Gerard Woodhouse, the Mayoral Lead for Older People, added: “These awards have gone from strength to strength and are still the only awards of this kind in the country.

“We have a fantastic awards evening planned later this year where we will see people rewarded for their achievements. It is a very humbling experience to be able to present these awards.

Remember, you have until Friday 18th August to get your nominations in, so don’t delay!
